Anniversary

Yesterday was our anniversary. Well, not the real yearly one, just the monthly one! We called it lunaversary lol. So we got together in october 2003, I was 20 and he had just turned 18. It feels like we have been together for much longer than 2 years... It is strange, it passed by so fast, we have done a lot and not much at the same time. I wish we had more opportunities to do more things together in real life.

Today I was thinking that it would be easy for me to go see him... I just have to leave home at a certain time and get there 8 to 10 hours later, that's like, quick! Well, in a way. That's the time I can take to read a Harry Potter or to sleep a bit or watch a few movies. Well anyway, it's not that far anymore... Not like back when people had to take a boat to the US and it took them weeks, not to say months. (God, what if you're sea-sick!) <.<

Well, so here's a question to the dudes and dudettes out there who are so lucky as to have a local significant other: what do you guys do when you hang out? (Apart from making out or having sex, that is an obvious one...)

ways to keep in touch

An important element of a long-distance relationship is how you are going to keep in touch.

 

Some people might write snail mail, if they live in the same country i guess it is ok. Some people might prefer using a phone, I like it, but in my situation it is expensive. Some people might use the internet! In my humble opinion, the Internet is the way to go, for severla reasons! first, you pay a monthly fee for unlimited access to any service you want, i.e. email, messengers, chat rooms and much more! even a blog like me and joel are doing! Second, you dont have to wait ages for the person to get back to you. In my situation, if i send a letter to joel today by airmail, it will probably get there in 8 to 15 days, and if he replies straight away his gets back to me a month after i sent mine! not very quick is it? also, snail mail is expensive! if i wanna send joel the slightest object it costs me 15+ euros, that's more than 17-20 dollars. and a letter is 3 stamps, so yeah <.< plus online you can voice-chat, or type to each other (if u dont want anybody to eavesdrop that can come in handy). you can do many things online, like read books (there are sites with free online books) or chat to friends, or play online video games such as final fantasy XI, go to forums, hang out wihtout going out XD

 

well it is not a rosy picture i am trying to paint... sometimes it is difficult to choose between staying home with ur significant other online or going out...without them! but i do think the internet has made LDRs easier to deal with. Can you imagine, 50 years ago, a letter to the US might have taken months to arrive! not to mention that 100 years ago, new york to washinton was considered very long distance! and now joel and I are separated by an ocean and it's cool <.< we see each other more often than my friend whose boyfriend lives 3 blocks away! (although no cuddles drives me crazy sometimes!)

XHTML code problems

ok so the site is fixed for firefox users... But! I went to an XHTML validator and it finds errors even in the blogspot default template. It won't display correctly in IE... argh XD internet technology.... html, XHTML, CSS, c, c#, c++ and others............. These can be real buggers sometimes. anyway! for now it's fixed, although the XHTML code has a problem. I tried comparing it with the XHTML code of the empty start template and I can't find what is wrong. Maybe one of the side things I added caused it to get messed up..... I am not sure I like XHTML anymore XD *kicks the XHTML validator*
anyway I'll try to fix it soon; until then try to get firefox to view this blog!

Moving or not... does it make a difference?

Some people will argue that being in a LDR from the start is different from being in a LDR after some time (for instance, one of the partners moves to another city). It is true that it does make a difference in that a LDR-only couple is used to being separated, while a LDR-to be couple is used to being in each other's presence and has to get accustomed to the separation.

I tend to believe that if the love is strong enough though, the relationship can work.

It might be my young age that makes me talk so... But I do believe in love.

What do you guys think?

COMMON FUTURE

Joel and I are seriously planning to live together later on. After we finish our studies, we want to buy a house and move in together.

Right now, I wish I was studying in the US, but I can't because it's too expensive... I don't think I would be granted a scholarship, and starting out with a loan to pay for college would be a bad idea methinks... Well at least I could see him more often... like EVERYDAY!

But anyway that isn't the question... All we want to do is finish our studies and buy a house and I will move to the US and marry him and live with him! ^-^

Don't you guys sometimes dream about that type of thing?

Don't be rude in France

Hi, everyone.
I decided to share a funny story. ^^

When I went to France to visit Marie, I didn't know much French.
Marie wanted to help me practice by telling me that I should try to order a crepe from the
crepe stand. So, Marie kept telling me that all I had to say to him was:
"Je voudrais deux crêpes au sucre." So, this being the only thing I had to say, according to Marie, I practiced this sentence a few time before nervously approaching the crepe guy.

I went up to him and declared my desire for the crepes with sugar and we made the transaction.
I handed one crepe to Marie and we walked off eating our delicious crepes.
Then, Marie turned to me and said, "Joel, you were rude to the crepe guy!".

I was shocked, I had no clue how on God's green Earth I could have been rude to that man!
Staring into my jaw-dropped face, Marie said to me, "You forgot to say 'Bonjour!'".

She never told me I had to say "Bonjour", and since I panicked (I am very shy), I just simply uttered that single sentence Marie told me I needed to know to order the crepes.

So, a note to anyone out there planning a trip to France, please say "Bonjour" first to anyone you are going to talk to. Well, unless it is the evening, then say "Bonsoir".

Writing stories

When Joel and I are bored and don't know what to do or what to talk about, we either read books together, or write stories!! Today we wrote a story about a little plant that meets 4 deer. lol
Well what gave me the idea to write a story was a blog that I found at random on blogger: 250k.blogspot.com
Basically, for the people who want to write stories, (I mean seriously, not just a short 3 page story), they say that 250 000 words per year will help you find your way.
I tend to give up on things easily, so I am sure that if I start, I will never get through it... But who knows, I might very well get through it. Or write many short stories, I don't know.
Anyway, to write a story together, Joel and I take turns writing a few lines, and when we don't know what to write anymore, we switch. so that the story has the ideas of both of us in it.
I think maybe you guys could try it if you are bored, or write a poem, one verse each and make it rhyme. I think it's very entertaining.

plans

Well, today me and Marie talked about plans for her to come to the US.

It would be cool if she could visit me at my dorm, but that would cost around $600 to $700.

Someone reading our blog may think that we must have a lot of money if I was able to go to France and Marie was able to come to the US. However, this is not true. We have no money. XD

I was able to go t France because my dad thought it would be best if I went to meet Marie right away and know for sure if she was someone I should keep up a LDR with. That was when I was attending the Stamford branch of UConn, but now that I attend the Storrs branch, my college is now costing my parents over $15,000 a year.

It seems as though most places on campus won't hire students unless they are signed up for work study. I had a job interview with a guy who was trying to create his own company, but he never called me back. I'll check back with him when school starts, but I should stay on the look-out for other forms of income.

Marie has found work at a clothing store. :D
I am very proud of her. ^^. She has enough for a plane ticket, but only one. So I must wait until the summer to see her.

It would be nice if she could visit me at my dorm because we would have more privacy, and would be able to hang out with friends all the time. I hope we can find privacy and hang out with friends more often when she comes to visit this summer.

I can not wait for the day when we will have our own house, and we will be able to be together all the time. I want to be able to take care of her every day, and I want to be able to show her how much I love her all the time.

Hi everyone, this being a blog dedicated to our LDR, I want the world to know how much I love him!

 

Joel is the sweetest and cutest guy I know and honestly, he is the nicest boyfriend a girl could ever dream of.

 

Well, I mean.... He is evil and very mean and absolutely horrible, YOU wouldn't want such a boyfriend! *hides Joel in a corner so that the other girls won't steal him* ^^;

 

No but seriously, Joel is a kind, loving boyfriend, and I wish everyone to find a person who is as perfect as my little Joel can be!

 

Now, Joel, if you are reading this, I believe your ego must inflate a bit lol :D well don't get a big fat head but yeah, you are the purrfect boyfriend! So keep up the good work ok? ^^

 

And also, Joel and me play Final Fantasy XI online, where we have these cute little tarutaru characters (they look like 5 year-old kids) and sometimes Joel looks at me and takes a little tarutaru voice and goes "Ahhh it's not my fault!"
Once he hurt himself, and i said "Oh, you ok?" and he looked at me like a little boy, and took his tarutaru voice and said: "I can take care of myself" then he gave me his hand and showed me where he had gotten hurt and said, still in his taru voice "Fix it!"
Man I almost died, it was so cute. I fear his cuteness, and so should you!

 

Hop on the plane!!

When I think about it, sometimes I just wanna hop on a plane and go see Joel! No luggage, no heavy suitcase, no bag, just me with my plane ticket in my purse, ready to go to the United States to spend some time with Joel! Of course, I can't do that without planning as plane tickets are expensive and I don't wanna get a travel deal just to travel cheap if security isn't assured on the plane.
So I am working to make some money in order to go see Joel again soon.
And with the little I earn <.< this might take some time or at least some energy - a lot of energy! ALL MY ENERGY! *falls asleep on the table and doesn't wake up to go to work in 30 min* XD
Oh well <.<

Joel's opinion on LDRs

Well, Marie is right. If you are in or planning on having a long distance relationship, then yes, PREPARE TO SUFFER!!! But do not forget that ALL couples suffer, LDR or not!

However, like Marie said, if the partners are open with each other, then it will be easier for the couple to enjoy a smooth relationship. This doesn't mean their won't be hard times, but the communication will help you minimize and get over these hard times with your partner.
When something in our LDR hurts me, or makes me upset or angry, I let Marie know, and I let her know what she needs to do to help us avoid those problems.

Know, Marie tells me about those things too. And, guys, sometimes when the person you love tells you things like that, it HURTS! But, you have to understand that you need to listen, because she is trying to tell you that something is hurting her or making her upset.

The important thing is that when you fight, keep in mind that it is not the end of your relationship. Don't you think that if a girl gets mad at you, and you try to patch things up and make the relationship work better that maybe it shows the girl how much you care and how much work you are willing to put into the relationship to make it work?

I think the amount of fights me and Marie have had, and all the times we have worked things out, really shows each of us how much the other is willing to do to keep the relationship happy and reliable.

A relationship like ours is really something you have to work for.
And if you really find someone as special as Marie, then it's worth it. ^^
(It should be noted that we were not looking for relationships online at the time, we were just friends online, and then over time we began liking and missing each other. Then we realized that we loved each other. ^^)

So, you, readers, maybe someday find yourself admist a LDR. I guess it is up to you to decide if it is worth it or not, it depends on the person and who they truly turn out to be. But, if you realize you really do love the person, then you should try your best to communicate about how the relationship is going and what you need to do to keep it going.

The pros and cons of being in a LDR:

When he’s away, you can’t cuddle as much as you want, you can’t run to him when you’re depressed. If like us, you have to put up with time difference, it makes it even worse. Add to that the phone bills if you can’t see each other online and still wanna hear his/her voice.

When it is sunny outside and you wanna hang out you have to choose between hanging out with friends (outside, u can see the sunlight and feel the breeze on your face) or hang out together (inside, no sun, no breeze, but with your significant other!)

I remember when I first dated Joel, I used to run home to see him lol when my friends asked me to hang out I said I was busy and had to go (and I ran home to talk to Joel on messenger) It was fine, until one day I felt sad that it was sunny outside and I had to stay inside if I wanted to talk to him…
I wouldn’t recommend a LDR, because it is hard to deal with when you are deeply in love the person and every moment you spend without them seems like torture. But I guess if you are strong enough and want your relationship to go somewhere it’s not that hard to deal with. Except for the physical part, but that depends on the person. Like, us for example, we miss each other a lot, but we wanna build a future together, so we put up with the situation now so that if we can go through this right now, our love will be stronger and we can have a stable relationship and live together and have fun later on.
I guess it depends on what you are looking for really… If it is just fun as in cybering, I guess it’s not really a relationship <.< so it should be fine as long as you’re clear with the other (it would be nice to let them know so that it doesn’t hurt their feelings later if they expected you to love them lol poor them XD) But if you want a real relationship, get ready to suffer, get ready to miss the other a lot, to cry even and maybe fight because of the pressure the distance puts on both of you.

Personally I think it is worth it though… Because it would be silly for me to miss out on love because it wasn’t the guy next door. Joel is part of my life, and I don’t feel good if one day I can’t talk to him while I really need to. But then again the choice is up to you.

10 reasons why girls should love Joel, and 10 reasons why I am happy he is with ME!

1. Joel is a very nice guy, probably the nicest guy in town, not to say in the country. But if he loved another girl I would feel very lonely...
2. Joel always pays attention to you and tries not to hurt your feelings. If he loved another girl, I wouldn't be as happy as now with my loving boyfriend...
3. When Joel hurts your feelings he says sorry. He even says sorry if he didn't do anythign wrong but he sees you upset. If he was with another girl, I would be very upset at him for not loving me.

7. When I do feel bad he is always there to cheer me up. If I didn't have him there are times I wouldn't know who to turn to.
8. Even when he has to study, he finds time to talk to me. And when I have to study he tries to force me to study lol
9. Joel is the reliable type: he never lets me down!! If he was with somebody else he would never let HER down and I would be let down and my little butt would hurt because he wouldn't be there to put a cushion under it so I don't hurt when I fall.
10. And last but not least (and the list could go on...) Joel is hawt! And I love his kisses and his cuddles and if he was with someone else, I would never have known what love means.

Marie's home

Marie called me today when she got out of class, but I didn't get to the phone in time. ^^
I called her from my cell, but she didn't pick up either, lol.
Luckily, she though her cell rang and she called me back. lol.

She sounded very happy, so I guess she was either glad to hear from me, or she did well on her exam, or both. ^^. I love it when her voice is full of happiness and cuteness.

I love Marie with all my heart. ^^
I hope she does well on her next exam tomorrow.

Puisque Marie est française, quelque fois nous parlons en français. C'est trop fun quand ta copine peut t'enseigner des mots d'amour à lui dire. Et je peux apprendre la langue plus vite parce que j'ai toujours quelqu'un avec qui parler.

Puisque je sais pas de quoi parler, je vais parler de Marie. Elle est brune, j'aime bien les brunes. Elle est très intelligente, et peut parler français, anglais, espagnol, un peu italien, et un peu japonais. Elle est très belle et amusante. Je suis trop content quand elle rit. Sa peau est blanche et lisse, c'est fantastique. Ses yeux irradient comme tu peux pas imaginer. J'ai envie d'être avec elle pour toujours. C'est la seule fille pour moi. I live in Connecticut, USA; and Marie lives in Paris, France.
We met online and became friends. Then we fell in love with each other.
I went to visit Marie 2 Summers ago, she visited me last summer, and she will be visiting me again this summer.

Having a long distance relationship is difficult, and we have been through a lot.
But we are proof that online relationships can be wonderful, and we hope to be able to share our experiences with everyone.

Well, when I walk around i always have my cell phone ready so that I can take pics and show joel what i see... since he lives very very far away, i don't have the chance to see things at the same time as him and vice versa, but at least, he know what i see daily ^^ (don't worry, i dont spam him with pictures, but for example, that one was nice)

here is a basic drawing i made on Paint to show u guys the difference between french kids and japanese kids. the former put their names as an equation and the result is love, circled by a heart. The latter are more discreet about the whole thing, they just walk next to each other under the same umbrella.... we're more direct ;-)
